This holographic lenticular artwork, GEM passage iii : Lani’akea, is an excerpted detail from the full 15’ triptych. It was designed to highlight the cosmic face whispering, while the uplifted hand gestures toward the heavens. Lani’akea refers to ‘immense heaven’ or ‘vast expanse’. The exemplary navigational skills of the Polynesian people are based in their sacred understanding of the movement of the stars in harmony with the heavens, empowering stewardship of the land and respect for all life.
This video shows a detail view of the holographic effect as one walks around the artwork.
